Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina has agreed personal terms with Newcastle ahead of a potential move this summer, according to prominent journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

The beIN Sports correspondent and Gazetto dello Sport contributor claimed the 34-year-old has settled a financial package with the Premier League new boys, but it is not clear whether the player wants to leave his current club.

Palmeri posted a message on his personal Twitter account to explain the latest on Reina and Newcastle:

This comes after a Mirror report claimed Toon manager Rafa Benitez wanted to sign the experienced shot-stopper for £4million this summer.

Benitez has previously managed Reina at Napoli and Liverpool, where the pair worked together for five years.

The Magpies boss is keen to improve on his goalkeeping options next term after Matz Sels struggled in his first season at the club, while Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot have both failed to nail down the number one jersey.

Reina was a mainstay between the sticks for Napoli this term, making 37 Serie A appearances, keeping 12 clean sheets.

He joined the Italian outfit in the summer of 2015 and he has since played more than 90 league and cup games for the club.

The 34-year-old has played for some of the top clubs in Europe, having plied his trade at the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as Villarreal, Liverpool and Napoli.

He was also member of Spain’s World Cup winning team of 2010, and he has been capped 34 times.
