Oxford raring to go at Monchengladbach

West Ham defender Reece Oxford has explained that he decided to move to Borussia Monchengladbach because it is a “great step” in his career.

The Premier League side confirmed on their official website on Wednesday that the 18-year-old has moved to the German giants on a season-long loan.

Versatile player Oxford, who can operate at the heart of the club’s defence and in the middle of the park, has come through the ranks at the London club and he is highly-rated by his coaches.

Oxford recently spent six months on loan at Championship play-off finalists Reading but he only played five games under Jaap Stam.

Nonetheless, after his move Bundesliga was confirmed, Oxford offered his thoughts on his switch from England’s top tier to Germany’s top tier.

“I think [I chose to come to] Borussia because I have seen the squad and I’ve seen them play a few times and they play a few young players as well, so I think this will be a great step for me away from the family and everyone,” Oxford told the club’s official website

“Hopefully, I can prove what I can be.”

Oxford will be joining a side that finished in the top ten during the recently concluded season, four points off fifth-placed FC Koln.

Oxford, who is playing outside of England for the first time in his career, will be looking to impress his new side and produce the goods in order to break into the Hammers first-team.

Despite Slaven Bilic’s side struggling for form last term, particularly in defence, they have opted to allow their highly-rated defender move away from the club this summer.
