Oxford closing in on Germany move

West Ham defender Reece Oxford is closing in on a summer switch to Borussia Monchengladbach, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the 18-year-old sensation has arrived in Germany ahead of a season-long loan move to the Bundesliga giants.

It is said Oxford has flown over for advanced talks with Dieter Hecking’s side with the Hammers teenager wanting regular first-team football.

West Ham academy product Oxford is highly-rated by his London club and he is tipped to be a future star for the Hammers and England.

He has made 16 senior appearances for Slaven Bilic’s side, including a memorable performance on his Premier League debut in 2015 with West Ham beating Arsenal 2-0 away from home.

During that encounter at the Emirates Stadium, Oxford was utilised in a defensive midfield role by his manager and was applauded for the manner in which he dealt with Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The report also states that Oxford’s parent club will not consider any permanent offers for their player.

During the recently concluded campaign, Oxford was on loan at Championship side Reading, who were beaten in the play-off finals by Huddersfield last month.

The England Under-20 international only appeared on five occasions for Jaap Stam’s side, including playing at centre-back during the 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Norwich in April.
