West Ham wanted £8million for midfielder Havard Nordtveit prior to his move to Hoffenheim but eventually settled for £3million less, according to a club insider.

Ex-WHU employee, who is a reliable source of West Ham news, has claimed on their personal Twitter account that the fee agreed by the Hammers for the sale of the 26-year-old is close to £5million plus performance related add-ons.

The Premier League club confirmed on their official website on Tuesday afternoon that the defensive-minded midfielder has made a switch to the Bundesliga after one season in England.

It is said by West Ham that Nordtveit completed the move for an undisclosed fee, but Ex-WHU employee has given an insight track into what fee the Hammers really wanted for their player.

“The club originally wanted £8million,” he said on his personal Twitter account. “But I think it’s ended up being close to £5million with performance related clauses also added in.”

Regardless of how much money Nordtveit has been sold for, the Irons have received a profit from his sale because they originally signed him up on a free transfer last summer.

During his time at the club, Nordtveit played 21 matches in all competitions for his side, providing one assist and helping his team secure eight clean sheets.

Over the course of the season, he partnered the likes of Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyaté in the middle of the park.

After finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, it is highly likely that West Ham will dip into the transfer market in order to improve their squad.

They have not signed any players at this moment in time, but the summer transfer window doesn’t officially open until July 1.
