Serbian striker Mitrovic has become a firm fan favourite with his all-energy, feisty performances up top. However the 22-year-old’s goal scoring record leaves something to be desired. Signed in the summer of 2015 for £13million, the striker has failed to live up to his price tag, having scored just four goals in 25 appearances for the Magpies last season. His return in the Premier League was a little better, with nine goals in 34 appearances, and he will be hoping to prove himself in the top flight again next season. The Northern Echo have linked Mitrovic with a move away, with Italian side Napoli reportedly interested, although with so few attacking options at the club, it would be a surprise. That said, if the Magpies can recoup the money spent on the striker, fans may well have to say goodbye to a cult hero.
