Newcastle’s football development coach Peter Beardsley has praised manager Rafa Benitez and said that he “has a lot of decisions to make” as the transfer window kicks in.

The former Toon player has revealed during an interview with the Chronicle that he’s a big fan of the ex-Liverpool manager and that Newcastle fans have nothing to worry about during what will be a summer of considerable overhaul following promotion.

The newspaper said that Benitez is incredibly supportive of the younger players, and has previously watched the reserves to give the squad encouragement.

When asked about his thoughts on the manager, Beardsley was quoted as saying: “He’s been brilliant.

“He came in before (reserve) games (last season) and gives these kids as much encouragement as he can.

“Going forward he has a lot of decisions to make.”

Any fans who may have had doubts or qualms about the club’s summer signings, the reserves’ manager ensured that there was nothing to worry about as he was quoted on the Chronicle’s website saying: “They know what’s going on and that’s all that matters.”

The ex-Liverpool boss will be looking to strengthen his newly-promoted squad ahead of the club’s Premier League campaign.

At the end of May the Magpies confirmed the signing of Christian Atsu on a permanent deal on a four-year contract following his year-long loan spell from Chelsea.

Benitez secured the 25-year-old after the Ghana international made 32 league appearances and provided five goals for the club.

Atsu remains as the only confirmed signing by the Magpies so far, but Benitez will be keen to carry-out a busy transfer window over the summer.
