Newcastle are one of a number of Premier League clubs who are in the hunt for Hull’s 23-year-old defender Andrew Robertson this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Magpies are up against competition from top flight rivals Liverpool, Burnley and West Ham for the left back’s signature.

The Mail report that Newcastle have discussed signing the proven Premier League player this summer.

Robertson is likely to be looking for a move back to the peak of English football after suffering relegation with Hull, and the Tigers are said to be looking for a reasonable £8million for their defender.

He was a key part of the Yorkshire-based side’s Premier League campaign last season, as he made 33 out of a possible 38 top flight appearances, scoring a solitary goal and chipping in with two assists.

He also has 15 caps for Scotland, his debut coming back in 2014, while he also played the full 90 minutes in their recent World Cup qualifying clashes with Slovenia and England.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has been vocal about his desire to secure top flight experience for his side next season, and it appears that Robertson would fit the bill.

The Magpies currently have Paul Dummett as their first choice left back, with Achraf Lazaar and Massadio Haidara both failing to convince the manager of their worth to the first team squad.
