Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle have both offers to Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour, according to AS.

The Spanish sports newspaper report on their website that the English pair will have to battle it out with French sides Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille to secure the centre back’s signature.

It is also said that they will have to convince the 27-year-old of a move to England, with his preference being a return to France after his time at Monaco between 2014 and 2015.

AS say that Valencia are looking to recoup part of their £18.5million spend on the Tunisian defender, with French football news website Foot Mercato suggesting that he would be available for a cut price of £13million this summer.

Both Everton and Newcastle will be looking for defensive reinforcements this summer, and the 6′ 1″ centre back could prove to be a healthy addition for both sides.

For the Magpies, the heart of their defence is made up of players who were relegated at the end of the 2015/16, with Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba dropping a division under Rafael Benitez, and Ciaran Clark suffering the same fate at Aston Villa.

The Toffees meanwhile have 34-year-old Phil Jagielka and 32-year-old Ashley Williams as their first choice pairing at the back, so Ronald Koeman is likely to be looking to find an adequate replacement for either, or both, of his ageing defenders.
