Speculation is intensifying that FC Twente midfielder Mateusz Klich will become one of the first signings of new Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen.

Dutch publications De Telegraaf and Tubantia both reported on Tuesday that the Championship club are pushing hard to land the Poland international before the summer transfer window shuts.

It is claimed that Leeds have had one bid rejected but have not been put off and are still locked in talks with Twente as preparations are made for a second offer.

United’s pursuit of a 10-times international who had a fine 2016-17 campaign for a top-tier club in a strong league has been broadly welcomed by supporters keen for Christiansen and Leeds director of football Victor Orta to strengthen a squad that fell short last season.

It is early days in the summer transfer market but Leeds’ only new signing to date is right-winger Hadi Sacko, whose 2016-17 season-long loan has been converted into a permanent transfer.

Here are five reasons why it is inevitable that Klich will join Sacko through the Elland Road entrance door and be named in Christiansen’s starting XI for the team’s Championship curtainraiser against Bolton on 6 August:
