Newcastle United have been installed odds-on favourites to sign Chelsea attacker Tammy Abraham this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Sky Bet priced the newly promoted Premier League club at 2/5 on Monday morning to land the prolific forward before the transfer window shuts on 3 September.
Newcastle are massive favourites to land Abraham, with the next-best priced club Brighton, who are 4/1, followed by third-placed Everton at a distant 14/1.
This comes after reports that the north-east giants are close to signing the teenager, who does not turn 20 until October, on a season-long loan.
The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle are on the verge of completing a deal for Abraham after manager Rafael Benitez took advantage of his close relationship with Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo to secure an agreement.
Abraham was in sensational form during a loan spell last season at Championship outfit Bristol City, where he scored 26 goals from 48 appearances in all competitions.
His form has caught the eye of a number of suitors, but Chelsea are only prepared to let him leave on loan as they regard him as a player with the potential to make it as a first-teamer at Stamford Bridge.
Abraham could become Newcastle’s second summer signing following the recent arrival of winger Christian Atsu, who has signed on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
London-born Abraham has yet to figure for the Chelsea first team, although he has scored 13 goals in 29 games for the club’s Under-23s.
