Arsenal are confident that midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is going to reject a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool and sign a new contract worth more than £100,000-a-week, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the Merseyside club are desperately trying to entice the 23-year-old to Anfield this summer but Arsenal have already started discussions with the player over a bumper new contract.

The Mirror report that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has moved to secure the Englishman on a new deal in the next couple of weeks.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has enjoyed one of his best seasons at the club since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Southampton in 2011.

The England international made 29 Premier League appearances this season, his highest number of league games played in a single season.

The youngster contributed with six goals and eleven assists in all competitions this season.

He became an essential part of the Arsenal starting lineup in the closing months of the campaign when Arsene Wenger decided to switch to a back three in April.

The Arsenal boss deployed the Englishman in the full-back role and he excelled in this new position helping the Gunners to win nine of their remaining 10 matches in all competitions.

The 23-year-old started in Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph over Premier League champions Chelsea, winning his third major trophy with the North London club.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently on international duty with England as they prepare to face Scotland in an important World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park on June 10.
