Newcastle’s Kevin Mbabu has signed for Swiss outfit BSC Young Boys, it has been confirmed.

The 22-year-old right-back spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan with Young Boys, and he has now put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract with the club, after transferring from the Toon for an undisclosed fee.

The Magpies announced the news on their official website and on their official Twitter account on Thursday morning.

Mbabu was a mainstay of Young Boys’ back line during his spell there last term, making 27 appearances in all competitions, including one in the Europa League.

He was also somewhat of an attacking force, as he provided four assists and scored two goals for the club.

The 22-year-old signed for Newcastle from Swiss side Servette in January 2013, but he failed to make much of an impact at the club, and spent the latter half of the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Rangers.

Mbabu only appeared in a Toon shirt five times during his four seasons at the club, although he did play a further 21 games for the Under-23s.

He has been capped by Switzerland Under-20s on two occasions, but he is yet to receive a call-up to the senior side.

Newcastle manager Rafa Bentitez is looking to strengthen his squad this summer ahead of his side’s return to the Premier League, and he may look to invest some of the funds from Mbabu’s sale in new signings.
