Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has claimed Alexis Sanchez has the right character to succeed at his former club.

The Arsenal forward enjoyed a fantastic 2016/17 campaign, and he earned himself many potential suitors as his contract dispute with the North Londoners rumbles on.

United struggled in front of goal this term largely, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goals papering over the cracks of a weak forward line and Robson has urged them to do all they can to sign Sanchez.

He told the London Evening Standard: “[Sanchez] has played at a club like Arsenal, so he can handle the pressure, that’s 100 per cent guaranteed.

“His character is right, he’s a tough player, he’s really skilful, he works hard for the team, he can score and he create goals. When you put that package together, he is the type we would like here.”

The Red Devils’ manager Jose Mourinho is understood to be in the market for a new front-man, so he could be interested in signing the Chilean international, whose contract enters its final year this summer.

Sanchez was in superb form for the Gunners this term, scoring 30 goals in 51 league and cup games, as well as providing 19 assists.

The 28-year-old arrived at the Emirates in the summer of 2014 in a £36million switch from Spanish giants Barcelona, and he has since become a key player for the club and has made more than 140 appearances in all competitions, scoring 72 goals.

He has won two FA Cups during his time in North London, and scored in the final as the Gunners beat Chelsea 2-1 to claim their third cup title in four seasons this term.

Sanchez has been capped by Chile 108 times, scoring 37 goals, and he featured in all six games of their 2016 Copa America winning campaign.
