Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter today in a mix of desperate hope and disbelief, following a report of their club’s mega-money bid for Kylian Mbappe in the Daily Telegraph

The Telegraph report revealed that the Gunners’ £87m bid was rejected by Monaco, and was the third offer for the French teenager to be rejected.

Real Madrid was one of the other bidders for the Frenchman after offering a record-breaking sum of £105m this summer.

Mbappe was in electrifying form for Monaco last season, with 26 goals from 44 appearances, including six in nine Champions League games.

For many, the bid appeared surprising, but it shows that Arsene Wenger is ready to make changes to his squad this summer, which will be music to the ears of many Arsenal fans following years of uneventful transfer windows.

After announcing his two-year contract extension on Wednesday, Wenger has been at the forefront of transfer gossip and rumours, and has been reported to be looking to re-enter the race for Alxeandre Lacazette following the Atletico Madrid transfer ban.

The Gunners boss will be keen to strengthen his squad’s attacking prowess, particularly after reports of further uncertainty surrounding Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s future at the Emirates, and Mbappe would do just that.
