Premier League giants Manchester United are thinking about a move for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The MEN claims the club’s efforts to sign Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann are all but over, and they have now switched their focus to the Welshman.

It is said United manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign a winger who is comfortable playing on both the right and the left, and Bale fits the bill.

However, the report claims the 27-year-old would cost the Red Devils a transfer fee of more than £100million, and that Madrid have turned away enquiries for the player thus far.

Bale is under contract at Madrid until 2022, having signed a new deal in October of last year, but United have tried to sign him in the past.

It is said the Manchester giants attempted to sign the fleet-footed winger from Southampton prior to making a move to Tottenham, and then again before he left North London to join Los Blancos.

Bale only managed to make 27 appearances in all competitions this term in a season ravaged by injury, but he still scored nine goals and provided five assists.

He arrived at the Bernabeu in September 2013 in a sensational £85million move from Spurs, and he has since played 150 league and cup games for the club, netting 67 goals and supplying 51 assists.
