Vincent Kompany believes Yaya Toure staying at Manchester City for another season is a “big, big deal” for the supporters.

The club confirmed on their official website on Friday that the 34-year-old has extended his current deal at the Etihad Stadium to one more year.

Toure, whose current contract was due to expire in the summer, was frozen out of the first-team picture by manager Pep Guardiola at the start of the campaign.

However, after making amends with the Spaniard, Toure returned to the starting XI and played a big part in his team securing a Champions League place.

Centre-back Kompany was clearly delighted that Toure will continue on at the club as he believes it is a special moment for the supporters.

“I am happy for Yaya,” Kompany told Sky Sports. “He is a City legend. Every trophy I’ve won at City he’s been a big part of it. For the fans and club, it’s a big big deal.”

Toure moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2010 when Manchester City paid La Liga giants Barcelona £25million for his services.

Over the course of his seven years at City, Toure has lifted two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and two League Cups in England.

As a result, he has played 299 matches in all competitions for the Manchester club, scoring 79 goals and providing his teammates with 48 assists.

During the recently concluded Premier League campaign, he played 25 league games in a City shirt, finding the back of the net on five occasions.

Toure will be now hoping to add more trophies to his name next term.
