Hearts appear to have won the race to sign Manchester City defender Ashley Smith-Brown on loan, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 21-year-old has held discussions with the Scottish Premier League side for a number of weeks and the youngster is set to turn down offers from the English clubs in order to secure a loan deal to Hearts next season.

Manager Ian Cathro has reportedly been looking to sign a left full-back this summer and they believe the City youngster is the perfect fit for the club.

The potential move is likely to be completed on 1 July as the youngster is still on loan to Dutch side NAC Breda.

Smith-Brown is unlikely to break his way into the City first-team next season as manager Pep Guardiola has been heavily linked with signing full-backs in the transfer market.

The defender has spent his entire footballing career at the Etihad Stadium but he hasn’t made a single appearance for the first-team.

The young Englishman enjoyed an impressive loan spell playing in the second tier of Dutch football last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.

Smith-Brown’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2019.
