Ederson delighted at City switch

Manchester City’s new signing Ederson has expressed his excitement after making a move to the Premier League.

The club confirmed on their official website on Thursday afternoon that the 23-year-old goalkeeper will officially move to the Etihad Stadium on July 1 from Benfica.

Brazil-born Ederson stated that there were a number of important factors behind his transfer, including City growing as a club and the possibility of working with Pep Guardiola.

After the highly-rated youngster had put pen-to-paper on a new contract, he offered his thoughts on his new club and why he signed.

“I like everything about Manchester City,” Ederson told the club’s official website. “This is a great club, the league they have here in England and they have amazing fans and they play splendid football. I have always had the dream to play in English football and now I’m going to make it true.

“With Pep Guardiola, City are growing more and more. He is putting in place a young team for the future. Those were important factors in making my decision.”

Ederson makes a switch from Primeira Liga outfit Benfica, who won the title in Portugal this season by beating Porto to the top spot.

Over the course of the campaign, the Brazillian played 40 matches in all competitions for his side, recording 24 clean sheets.

He also participated in seven Champions League encounters for his team before they were knocked out by German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Nonetheless, he will join a team that will be playing in Europe’s biggest club competition next term after finishing third in the table behind Tottenham and champions Chelsea.

Willy Caballero and Claudio Bravo were the players used between the sticks this term, with the latter struggling to impress after making a big-money switch from Barcelona last summer.
