Leeds United are facing fierce competition from Burnley for the signature of midfielder Jonny Howson this summer, according to HITC.

The news outlet claim that the Premier League club have submitted an enquiry to Norwich City as to the availability of the player.

Burnley are set to enter the transfer market this summer in pursuit of a new midfielder, after allowing the controversial Joey Barton to leave the club at the end of his contract.

It is said that Norwich are set to “reluctantly” listen to offers for the 29-year-old, as they aim to finance their own summer overhaul, following the arrival of manager Daniel Farke.

However, Burnley could be set to face competition from Leeds in their bid to bring the goalscoring midfielder, who scored six goals in the Championship last term, to Turf Moor in the coming months.

Leeds have also been credited with a keen interest in Howson, who began his career at Elland Road, after the Sun revealed last month that Whites’ owner Andrea Radrizzani had made him a priority target.

The report also detailed that the player was likely to cost at least £4million, although that figure should pose little problem to either side this summer.

But Burnley have the added offering of a return to Premier League football, and will look to press home their advantage as they go head-to-head with Leeds.

Howson still has two more years left to run on his current deal at Norwich, where he has scored 23 goals in 188 appearances since his arrival in 2012.
