Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is set to sit down with Arsene Wenger for talks about his future and demand more regular first-team football.

The 30-year-old has proven an important asset to the club since his arrival from Montpellier in 2012, but he has still yet to establish himself as a key member of the first-team squad.

Giroud has scored an impressive 98 goals and supplied 41 assists from 227 appearances in all competitions, but he has largely been restricted to substitute appearances.

He made 40 appearances in all competitions during the 2016-17 campaign, of which just 17 were in the Arsenal starting eleven, and he has grown frustrated at his intermittent role.

The France international is still under contract at the Emirates for another three years, but has been linked with a possible exit this summer, and could request a move if not given assurances over an important role.

He said, as quoted by the Times: “I’ll talk to the coach. I had limited playing time but, at some point, there are things I will not be satisfied with – another year with such low playing time.

“It will be necessary to think with my family and advisers. I still have three years with Arsenal, so my future is for now with Arsenal. I feel good, I want to win the championship of England.

“Afterwards, I do not know what my near future will be. It will be necessary to deal with the transfer. It will be necessary to see with the coach.”

Giroud has largely played second fiddle to Chile international Alexis Sanchez in a centre-forward role, but he also at times found himself behind Danny Welbeck in the pecking order.

However, with Wenger seeking to add even more firepower in the transfer market this summer, amid reported interest in both Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe, Giroud will consider his options.

The Times claim that Arsenal are prepared to offer £35million to sign Lyon goalscorer Lacazette, should they fail in their pursuit of Monaco’s Mbappe, but the French giants are holding out for £52million.

Giroud had earlier insisted that his future lies in the Premier League, because he still has “titles to win“. However, he has left the door open to a potential move if not given more regular action next season.
