Everton are the frontrunners alongside Leicester City in the race to sign Coventry City teenage sensation Jordan Ponticelli in the summer transfer window, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims the Toffees will face a battle to sign the 18-year-old striker as fellow Premier League sides Huddersfield Town and Crystal Palace are all interested in Ponticelli.

The Sun report that manager Ronald Koeman has been keeping a close eye on the teenager for the last couple of months and he has sent scouts to watch him in action on a number of occasions.

The Dutchman reportedly wants to reshuffle his Everton squad next season with a blend of top signings and youth players, and the dossier on Ponticelli is overwhelmingly positive.

The Sun also reports that Coventry are making plans to move Ponticelli into the first-team squad next season as they prepare for life in League Two, but the club are worried that they might not be able to convince the striker to stay.

The Sky Blues might also be concerned by the teenager’s recent comments when he expressed his disappointment at not being given a chance to play in the first-team last season.

The youngster enjoyed a sensational debut campaign with the Coventry Under-20s squad as he scored a total of 27 goals last season.
