Everton are set to battle it out with Roma in a race to sign Sassuolo ace Domenico Berardi, according to a Il Messaggero report.

The Italian media outlet claims the Toffees are weighing up a summer swoop for the 22-year-old right-sided attacker, who is valued at around £22million.

However, it is said Berardi is currently keen on the idea of playing under Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco, which puts his prospects of a move to Merseyside in doubt.

The Italian youngster was prolific for Sassuolo last term, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions, as well as providing 11 assists.

The 22-year-old began his career at Sassuolo, but he was snapped up by Juventus for £3.8million in 2013.

However, after failing to make an impact in Turin he returned to his boyhood club in the summer of 2015 for £8.5million.

Berardi has played 159 league and cup games for Sassuolo in his short career, which have yielded 59 goals and 43 assists.

He is primarily a right-winger, but he is also comfortable playing on the left and down the middle.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is looking to strengthen his attacking options this summer as it appears Romelu Lukaku may leave, and the 22-year-old is the latest player to be linked with a move to Merseyside.

Berardi has also been capped by Italy Under-21s on 24 occasions, and he has featured in all three of their 2017 European Under-21 Championships games so far.
