OPINION

Chelsea legend John Terry is leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, and the 36-year-old could be considering a surprise move to Aston Villa.

On Monday it was reported in The Sun that John Terry was keen to work with Steve Bruce and had begun talks with the Villa boss over a game of golf.

John Terry would add incredible value to the Championship side and here are three reasons why:

1) Experience

Throughout the years John Terry has excelled and become a legend in English football after making a total of 690 appearances for Chelsea and 78 for England.

The 36-year-old has captained both his Premier League club and country, which highlights his leadership which would be greatly welcomed at Villa Park.

The Chelsea skipper led Chelsea to the Premier League during his first season as the club’s captain which is an incredible achievement.

It’s the sort of leadership that could help Bruce lead his team straight back into the Premier League – and what value can you put on that?

2) Loyalty

Terry is known for his loyalty to Chelsea and has spent 22 years at the London club after he joined the youth team back in 1995.

The England international is entering the twilight of his career, and will want to join a club with the promise of first-team football and perhaps even a role off the pitch once he retires.

Promising Terry a coaching role at Villa once he hangs up his boots would be a fantastic way to gain the 36-year-old’s loyalty, and see him commit fully to the club.

3) Highest-scoring defender

The centre-back is the highest scoring defender in the Premier League era with 41 goals throughout his 492 PL appearances.

Chelsea also won over 63 per cent of their games when Terry was part of the squad, as opposed to just over 47 per cent without him.

Not only would the addition of the England star add maturity and commitment to the club, but he would also add more goals to the Villa promotion push.
