Aston Villa are in the running to sign Chelsea defender John Terry, according to the latest betting odds.

Leading bookmaker Sky Bet have priced the 36-year-old Premier League player at 9/2 to make a switch to the Championship side before September 3.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth, who finished in the top half of the Premier League table during the 2016/17 season, are leading the chase for his signature as they are priced at 4/6.

The Sun reported on Monday that Terry is keen to work with Villa manager Steve Bruce after the duo held talks over a round of golf.

Villa are looking to earn promotion from the second tier of English football after finishing in the bottom half of the table during the most recently concluded campaign.

Despite spending heavily during the summer and winter transfer windows, the Midlands outfit were unable to produce consistent performances on the field of play.

Over the course of the campaign, Bruce opted to use James Chester and Nathan Baker as his main centre-back pairing, with Tommy Elphick as his back-up option.

Terry’s contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire at the end of this month and if he were to make a switch to Villa then he would add valuable experience to the side.

He played 690 matches in all competitions for Chelsea, including winning five-Premier League titles and lifting the European Cup in 2012.
