Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral insists his short time at Rangers last season was “amazing”.

The 22-year-old spent the second-half of the 2016-17 campaign on loan at the Scottish club after Arsenal permitted him to continue his development in a regular first-team environment.

Toral has featured regularly for Arsenal’s youth sides since arriving at the club in the summer of 2011, but he has yet to be handed his first senior appearance.

But Arsenal are keen to monitor his continued developments, and allowed him to undergo two successive spells at Granada and Rangers over the course of last season.

He struggled to earn a regular role during his time in Spain, but his short stint with Rangers proved a much more fruitful experience, and Toral has spoken fondly of his time at Ibrox.

He said, as quoted by the Daily Record: “It’s amazing, the pitch, the crowd – it’s a special feeling.

“It was amazing to be part of this massive club, with such history – you can tell from just sitting in the trophy room.

“It was a good season, I’ve taken positives and am looking forward to what’s ahead for me.”

Toral returns to pre-season with Arsenal this summer, where he enters the final year of his contract at the Premier League club.

It could well be his final chance to prove his worth to manager Arsene Wenger before his deal expires, but he will face extremely tough competition for a regular first-team role.

The Spaniard has rarely been considered for a place in the first-team squad during his time at the Emirates, and it is doubtful that he will be handed many opportunities to impress with the seniors next term.

A Barcelona academy product, Toral has also spent time on loan at Championship duo Birmingham City and Brentford.
