Arsenal are looking to secure Aaron Ramsey on a new long term contract in order to ensure the midfielder’s future at the club, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Gunners have made this move in order to avoid a repeat of the contract sagas they have found themselves in this summer with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil.

The trio are all set to be out of contract next summer, and as a result the North London side face being forced to sell them this summer or lose them on a free transfer in a years time.

It is reported that the board at the club are in discussions over new deals for the Chilean, English and German internationals, and want to avoid being caught in the same situation next summer.

Ramsey is just one of a few players whose contract is set to expire in 2019, with first team stars Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck also on contracts which could see them depart for nothing the summer after next.

However, the newspaper states that the Welsh attacking midfielder is viewed as the most central to boss Arsene Wenger’s plans at the Emirates Stadium, and the board have made tying him down the priority.

Ramsey suffered a hit-and-miss season in the last campaign, limited to just 13 Premier League starts as a result of injury as well as scoring the decisive goal in the club’s FA Cup final success over Chelsea.
