Arsenal’s chances of swooping for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette have dramatically improved following Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, according to The Sun.

It was announced on Thursday that Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which means the Spanish-side are unable to sign any players until 2018.

This verdict has swung the door wide open for other clubs to make moves on players Atletico were interested in – and this includes Arsenal, who have been long-term admirers of Alexandre Lacazette.

Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas claimed last month that the 25-year-old would be moving to Atletico Madrid.

Now the move has potentially been stopped in its tracks, giving the Arsenal boss a fresh chance to pounce on the frenchman.

Wenger, who confirmed a two year contract extension earlier in the week, is a long-term admirer of the Lyon forward.

In a report in the Guardian, it was revealed that he had a £29million offer for Lacazette rejected by Lyon last summer.

The Gunners boss appears eager to add to his squad to reinstall the faith of many Arsenal fans following their worst Premier League finish under his management.

The Sun also revealed that Lacazette was unsure about his future and what club he would end up at.

“There’s nothing signed, nothing official. Yes, I can leave, it doesn’t mean I’ll leave. I’m good in Lyon, but I could go elsewhere.”

The 25 year old could be a great signing for the Gunners, following his hugely impressive impressive record of 37 goals in just 45 games this season.
