Arsenal and Liverpool are set to battle it out in the race for Girondins Bordeaux ace Gaetan Laborde, according to a Foot Mercato report.

The French media outlet claims Liverpool have made an enquiry into the 23-year-old striker’s availability, and the Gunners are interested in acquiring his services as well.

It is said Laborde is highly-rated in England after an impressive 2016-17 campaign for Bordeaux.

The 23-year-old was a mainstay of the Ligue 1 outfit’s front line last term, scoring 13 goals in 42 league and cup games, as well as providing five assists.

He broke into Bordeaux’s first team in the summer of 2014, but he was subsequently loaned out to Stade Brest 29 and Clermont Foot, which has meant his impact at his boyhood club has been limited until the 2016-17 season.

Laborde was capped on five occasions by France Under-20s in his youth, but he is yet to receive a call-up to the senior side.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his attacking options this summer, after his club finished in a disappointing fifth-place last campaign.

Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez’s futures in North London are in doubt, and Wenger may have earmarked Laborde as a potential replacement.
