Alexis Sanchez praises Alex Iwobi

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has praised fellow teammate Alex Iwobi and claimed that he can have a stunning future in the game if he has a “winning mentality”.

Iwobi, 21, graduated from the Gunners youth ranks to make his breakthrough into the first team during the 2015-16 campaign alongside star man Sanchez.

During that season, the Nigerian made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing five assists.

Iwobi started the 2016-17 season as a first-team regular as he featured in 26 of the opening 30 Premier League matches.

However, as the season came to a close, the forward had to watch on from the sidelines when manager Arsene Wenger decided to switch to a back three.

The Nigerian still managed to improve on his breakthrough campaign as he made 39 appearances, scoring four goals and providing seven assists last season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, teammate Sanchez was full of praise for Iwobi and he believes that he has what it takes to be a great player.

“I really like Alex,” he said.

“He’s a player that can play up front, in the centre, he’s good at one on ones.

“If he has a winning mentality and keeps pushing forward I think he can do very well. I really like him.”

Iwobi picked up his first major trophy with the club as Arsenal beat Premier League champions Chelsea to win the FA Cup at the end of May.
