Arsenal will offer Rob Holding a new contract just one year after joining the club, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims Gunners manager Arsene Wenger sees the young centre-back as a “vital part” of his side and wants to tie his future to the North Londoners.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Emirates last summer, completing a £2.5million move from Bolton and he impressed in his first campaign with the club.

He made 18 appearances in all competitions, featuring heavily in their League Cup and FA Cup runs, and is currently under contract until 2020.

Holding was key in Wenger’s 3-4-3 formation, which saw him given a chance in the starting XI, when he had previously struggled to beat Laurent Koscielny, Gabriel and Shkodran Mustafi to the centre-back places.

The 21-year-old even played the full 90 minutes as the Gunners beat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley to claim their third FA Cup in four seasons.

Holding has been capped five times by England Under-21s, his last appearance coming in the 4-0 friendly win over Denmark in March of this year.

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League this term, their lowest finish since Wenger arrived at the club in 1996.

Wenger is looking to reinforce his squad this summer ahead of a title push next season, and according to a Haberturk report he is close to securing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan.
