Aston Villa forward Carles Gil has agreed personal terms with La Liga side Real Betis, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The Spanish newspaper claims that the 24-year-old is “excited” about the prospect of signing for the Andalusian side next season.

It is reported that there are four other top flight Spanish sides interested in signing Gil this summer but Betis are the favourites because they want to complete a permanent deal rather than negotiate a loan move.

However, the report claims that the deal has not been completed as Betis are waiting for the Championship side to reduce the asking price for the Spaniard.

Gil moved to Villa Park from Spanish side Valencia in the 2015 January transfer window for a fee just under £4million.

The Spaniard endured a tough start to life in England as he was part of the Villa team that was relegated from the Premier League during the 2015-16 campaign.

Last season, the Spanish forward was sent out on loan to La Liga side Deportivo but he was unable to have the desired impact at the club.

The forward made a total of 24 appearances in all competitions and although he provided four assists, he only managed to score a single goal which came in the 3-0 victory over Las Palmas on the final day of the league season.

Gil’s current contract at Villa Park expires in 2019.
