Newly appointed Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen has revealed his plans to take the club into top-flight football.

TEAMtalk have quoted the former APOEL Nicosia manager after the 44-year-old revealed that he wanted to bring “genius” Johan Cruyff’s style of coaching to Leeds to help them with promotion.

The new Elland Road manager was coached under the Dutch legend while at Barcelona during his teenage years, and now wants to utilise the tips he’s learned from Cruyff in order to lead his new club to the Premier League.

Christiansen was quoted in TEAMtalk discussing the impact of Cruyff: “There were many things that I didn’t understand, that he showed us, normal things for me now to understand, but in that moment I couldn’t see it because he was a genius – on the pitch, coaching.

“He’s the one who also changed football a little bit and this is one of the things I want to bring to Leeds.”

The Danish-Spaniard revealed that he had his own ideas for the club and that he was looking ahead to the hopes of promotion.

“Last year we finished seventh. At least the promotion should be there and of course we hope to do better,” Christiansen was quoted by TEAMtalk.

The 44-year-old was revealed as Garry Monk’s successor last week, and will be Leeds’ eighth manager in three years.

The Yorkshire club were left without a manager for three weeks after ex-boss Monk made a shock resignation and later signed on as Middlesbrough manager.

Christiansen hopes to guide the Whites to the Premier League for the first time since 2004, and will bring his experience of winning a domestic league after he helped his former team APOEL win the Cypriot First Division during his first and only season with the club.
