Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made a return to the club’s Carrington training ground, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News

The newspaper claims that the Swede has returned to the ground to complete rehabilitation following a serious knee injury, despite not being offered an extension on his year-long contract.

The goal-machine’s name was missed out of United’s retained players list last Friday, meaning that the striker looked set to be released from the club this summer.

It is said that the club have promised the Swedish international full access to the Carrington training facilities while the 35-year-old recovers from a cruciate ligament injury.

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward suffered the knee injury during the Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht back in April, which resulted in the striker missing out on the final ten games of the season.

Before his injury the Swede stunned fans scoring 28 goals in his 46 appearances for the club.

The MEN also claim that team mates Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are also set for a return and joined Ibrahimovic at the training ground this week.

Shaw saw little of the club’s 2016/17 season following a series of injuries, which started back in October after he missed 14 games due to a groin injury, and later in April the Englishman suffered an ankle injury against Swansea.

Ashley Young, 31, recently underwent surgery on a groin injury which he picked up during the Europa League semi-final first leg against Celta Vigo in May, and is now set to return to training.

All United players are due to take part in pre-season medicals at the beginning of July, so with the three players making an early return it suggests a level of determination and a need to prove themselves to manager Jose Mourinho.
