Current Peterhead midfielder Simon Ferry believes ex-Swindon teammate and current Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham can still play at a higher level.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper was a consistent part of the Gers’ first eleven in the last campaign, playing 43 times between the sticks in all competitions which saw him keep 15 clean sheets while conceding 47 times.

It was a disappointing campaign overall for those associated with the Ibrox giants as they finished in third place.

However, Ferry has hailed Foderingham as the best player in Rangers’ team last season and has told how he believes the goalkeeper can still play at a higher level.

“Wes was excellent for Swindon and he’s doing well for Rangers. He’s probably been their best player this year,” told Ferry, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I played with him for two years and you can count on one hand the number of mistakes he made. He’s been good at Rangers and he could play at a higher level.”

Foderingham joined Rangers from Swindon in the summer of 2015 on a three-year deal.

He has since played in 93 matches for the Ibrox giants in all competitions, conceding on 93 occasions while keeping a total of 38 clean sheets.

The goalkeeper is still contracted to the Gers until 2019 and next season he is likely to be lining up between the sticks as Pedro Caixinha’s men look to go far in the Europa League.

Ferry, meanwhile is combining his playing position at Peterhead with a coaching role in the Celtic youth system, which is where he graduated from.
