Three strikers Leeds should look to sign ahead of Wood’s likely departure

|

Dwight Gayle

The most ambitious of the three names, many would say that Newcastle would be unwilling to let their number nine depart, especially after hitting 23 goals for the Magpies last season. Former Crystal Palace man Gayle scored a goal, on average, every 93 minutes during the last campaign, a much better return than Leeds man Wood’s goal every 134 minutes.

However, the 26-year-old has failed to prove himself in the Premier League in the past, and with Newcastle securing promotion last season, they may be holding doubts over Gayle’s ability to compete at the very top. As such, the Magpies could let go of Gayle for a big money deal. If Leeds are serious about competing for a top six spot in the Championship next season, they should be targeting a proven hitman like Gayle – no matter the cost.
