Nottingham Forest chairman Nicholas Randall has penned a passionate message to fans in which he described the club as in ‘intensive care’ ahead of the new season.

Randall will take up his new role as chairman at the City Ground at the end of June, having been appointed by the Championship club’s new owner Evangelos Marinakis.

But despite his formal duties having yet started, Randall has wasted little time in recognising the problems that needed urgently addressing at Forest, and has declared his intention to help “nurse the club back to health.”

In an open letter to fans on the club’s official website on Thursday, he said: “To use the medical analogy the club is in intensive care. It is our job to ensure we nurse the club back to health.

“Although were all excited about the prospects for the club we must make sure that each step taken is based on strong foundations.

“We will no doubt stumble and occasionally fall, but we promise you that we will keep getting up again until the job is done.”

Nottingham Forest finished 21st in the Championship last season, only narrowly avoiding the drop to League One on the final day of the season, having bettered relegated Blackburn on goal difference.

Manager Mark Warburton, who took charge of the club in mid-March, has remained in his post as manager, but the remainder of the club’s management structure has undergone a significant shake-up.

Frank McParland, meanwhile, has had his contract as director of football extended, having followed Warburton to the club from Rangers.

But the joint arrival of chiefs Marinakis and Randall underline the club’s intentions to bring the glory days back to the club, with Forest boasting two European Cup titles in their proud history.
