Leeds face a fight with a number of their Championship rivals in their pursuit of Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, according to a report from Spox.

The German sports website claim that the Whites are one of six second tier sides to register their interest in the 27-year-old, who has asked to be allowed to leave the Bundesliga side this summer.

They also name Norwich, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers and Fulham as the interested parties.

The 6′ 2″ shot stopper joined his former youth side on a free transfer back in 2015 following spells at Eintracht Frankfurt and MSV Duisburg, after leaving Bremen for the first time in 2011.

Wiedwald is set to be out of contract next summer but is adamant on departing the North West German side in the upcoming transfer window, with French side FC Nantes the reported favourites for his signature.

The once Germany U20 goalkeeper made 25 league appearances for Werder Bremen last season, conceding 49 goals and keeping five clean sheets on the way to an eighth placed finish in the Bundesliga for his side.

New Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen currently has former England international Rob Green, Italian stopper Marco Silvestri and young goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell at his disposal, with 32-year-old Ross Turnbull set to depart on a free transfer in the summer.
