Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has stated that he loves the supporters calling him the “Scottish Cafu”.

The 32-year-old, who is a regular member of the Villa side, has seen that nickname chanted to him a number of times from the supporters.

During the recently concluded Championship season, Hutton was one of Villa’s standout players in defence despite his side finishing in the bottom half of the table.

There will be huge pressures on the players and manager Steve Bruce next term as owner Tony Xia expects his side to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Nonetheless, despite Villa’s struggles on the field of play in recent times, Hutton was grateful for the support he has received from the stands.

“I love it,” Hutton told the club’s official website. “Everyone wants to hear and read good things about themselves – I’m certainly no different.

“The fans have been amazing with me ever since I joined the club. I want to thank them for that.”

Former Roma right-back Cafu won two World Cups with Brazil during his time as a player and he was known for his fair on the right wing.

During his career, the Brazilian played for the likes of Roma and AC Milan which saw him win one European Cup added with two Italian titles.

Nonetheless, ahead of the new season, Hutton will be hoping to guide Villa back to the Promise land as the Midlands outfit will be one of the favourites to earn promotion.

However, he will have to battle the likes of James Bree and the injured Ritchie de Laet for a first-team spot.
