Bull delivers verdict on new Wolves manager Santo

Steve Bull has claimed new Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo must be given time to settle in at the club.

Santo was appointed Wolves boss two weeks ago, replacing Paul Lambert at the helm.

The former goalkeeper brought his own backroom staff with him to Molineux too, as Rui Pedro Silva arrived as assistant head coach, Rui Barbosa as goalkeeping coach and Antonio Dias as fitness coach.

Santo has previously managed the likes of Rio Ave, Valencia and Porto, and he was recommended for the role at the  Black Country club by super agent Jorge Mendes.

Bull, who spent 13 years at Wolves, scoring 306 goals in 561 league and cup games, believes Santo must be given the chance to settle in.

“Now is the time for stability,” he told the Shropshire Star. “The new man needs time to stamp his footprint on things and people are going to have to be patient.

“We all want the club to be successful and get back into the Premier League but we have to accept it may take longer than just one season to sort everything out.

“There will be a lot on his shoulders and I think the expectations are now even higher than they were 12 months ago. It is important everyone gets behind him. The club can’t keep chopping and changing all the time.”

Santo, 43, was sacked by Porto after guiding them to a second-place finish in the league last term, as well as reaching the last-16 of the Champions League.

The former goalkeeper was capped four times by Portugal at Under-21 level.

The 43-year-old also played for Porto, Dynamo Moscow and Deportivo La Coruna, as well as several other clubs.

Santo was part of Porto’s Champions League winning team of 2004, and he also won four league titles with the club.
