The expectations levels at Aston Villa will be very high for next season as manager Steve Bruce is tasked with helping the club earn promotion to the Premier League.

There are a number of areas within the squad that Bruce could add either quality, quantity or experience to which would benefit him in that promotion challenge.

Midfielder Tom Huddlestone recently endured relegation with Hull to the Championship but the 30-year-old holds a vast amount of experience and quality in both the top tier and the second tier.

At this moment in time, the likes of Conor Hourihane, Henri Lansbury, Mile Jedinak and Gary Gardner are the players vying for three midfield spots in the starting XI.

There is no doubt that Bruce needs more legs in the middle of the park, more challenge for places and more quality if Villa are to succeed over a gruelling Championship campaign.

Huddlestone would fit that bill because he has played on the big stage before and he has earned promotion, most recently with Bruce during their time at Hull.

There is no doubt that Villa need another powerful figure in the middle of the park and someone who can provide that defensive solidity if Jedinak were to suffer an injury.

Given the fact that Hull will be playing Championship football next season added with the fact that Bruce has worked with Huddlestone before, it could make it easier for Villa to make a move for the former Tottenham man.

Villa have nothing to lose in adding Huddlestone to their squad this summer.
