New Leeds United goalkeeper coach Marcos Abad has revealed on his personal blog that he will start his job next Monday.

The Spaniard, 31, hailed United as a “spectacular club” and thanked them for their “trust in me” after being appointed as a member of Thomas Christiansen’s backroom staff.

Abad revealed in a dispatch on Monday that he will arrive at the club’s Thorp Arch training headquarters next Monday after agreeing his deal as preparations begin for the new season.

“In a week, I will start this new adventure with great professionals who have trust in me,” wrote Abad on his blog. “I will try to give it all and I promise a lot of work to help Leeds and its fans become at the top of English football.”

Leeds director of football Victor Orta revealed on Monday at the unveiling of Christiansen that the backroom staff of former manager Garry Monk will be replaced by a new coaching team.

Christiansen has named Spaniard Julio Banuelos as his number two after they worked together at APOEL and AEK Larnaca, Ivan Torres is the new fitness coach and Abad will coach the keepers.

They replace Pep Clotet, James Beattie and Darryl Flahavan, who are expected to join Monk at Middlesbrough.

Orta, who spoke publicly on Monday for the first time since being appointed by Leeds at the end of last month, made the shock revelation that Abad had subbed a “very big” offer from a club in the super-rich Chinese league to join the Championship outfit.

The 31-year-old has a lengthy CV as a goalkeeping coaching despite his relative youth.

Abad cut his teeth at minnows Alcoyano at the age of 23 before getting his break when he joined the backroom team at La Liga 2 outfit Elche in the summer of 2010.

He then had a short spell working under Orta at Middlesbrough before quitting in the wake of their relegation to the Championship.
