Rangers new recruit Fabio Cardoso has shared his delight on Twitter after making his competitive debut for the club on Thursday.

The 23-year-old centre-back was named in the Rangers starting eleven to face Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League first qualifying round at Ibrox, where the home side ran out 1-0 winners.

Cardoso played the full 90 minutes of the clash, with Gers manager Pedro Caixinha also handing debuts to fellow summer signings Ryan Jack, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos.

The Portuguese defender took to his personal Twitter account following the victory to send a passionate message to the Rangers fans.

He said: “I have no words, I am very happy to have made my debut, for finally having the opportunity to play on Ibrox.”

Cardoso had been snapped up by Rangers from Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit Vitoria Setubal earlier this month, where he signed on the dotted line on a three-year-contract.

He had begun his professional career with Portuguese giants Benfica, but failed to make a single senior appearance for the club having spent his time their B team.

Rangers take a narrow one-goal lead into their second-leg clash with Luxembourg outfit Progres on Tuesday, courtesy of Kenny Miller’s 37th-minute effort.

They can move one step closer to the Europa League group-stages with a similar result, with a potential second qualifying round clash against either Jagiellonia Bialystok or Dinamo Batumi on the horizon.
