Leeds are expected to complete the permanent signing of Torino defender Pontus Jansson after overcoming hurdles to secure his transfer, according to a reliable journalist.

BBC Leeds correspondent Adam Pope claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Whites have resolved all issues and are set to complete a deal for the 26-year-old Sweden international on 1 July.

Jansson enjoyed a fantastic season-long loan at Elland Road and is now set to sign a three-year permanent deal with the Championship club, which was agreed at the beginning of February.

The powerful centre-back had a clause in his contract which stated he could join Leeds permanently in the summer if he surpassed 22 appearances for them, something he did comfortably by playing 36 times.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post claimed that Italian club Torino had lodged a formal complaint to FIFA, stating that Leeds had delayed the payment of a £3.5million fee until July.

The English club delayed the payment of the fee until the summer despite Jansson agreeing a three-year deal in February, leaving Torino unhappy that the sum was not paid immediately after his 22nd appearance.

Jansson became a hugely popular figure during his first year in England and Leeds fans will be thrilled that issues surrounding his move have been resolved.

He made 36 appearances across all competitions and played a major role in the club’s seventh-placed league finish.

The defender was included in the EFL Championship team of the year after his formidable displays and he had a great partnership alongside teammate Kyle Bartley at centre-back.
