Rangers icon Mark Hateley has claimed his former side need some technically gifted talents in the summer transfer window and feels that manager Pedro Caixinha should be able to bring in players of that ilk.

The 46-year-old is set for his first transfer market with the Scottish giants and will be looking to rebuild his squad ahead of next season.

He linked up with the Gers in March and looks set for a third-placed finish in the league, which is viewed by most as a disappointing year.

The Ibrox outfit have had to adjust to being back in the top flight and their squad will need strengthening significantly if they are to close the gap to champions Celtic, who cruised to the title and are still unbeaten domestically.

Ex-Gers striker Hateley was asked what kind of additions Caixinha needs to make in the summer and believes the manager should be able to attract some technically gifted players.

“I think brave players, I think you have to have obviously good players with strong characters,” Hateley told Sky Sports. “You need to have a level of strength within the technical ability and those players are hard to find. When they are out there they are expensive players as well so it is a tough job for him.

“But you would like to think with his contacts within the world of football, on the Portuguese side especially, the European culture, technically gifted players – those players could and should be available to Pedro.”

Caixinha previously managed club football in Portugal, Mexico and Qatar before making the move to Scotland and has inherited a group of players he will be looking to improve in the summer.

Hateley believes that he should be able to bring in some flair players to improve the squad and Rangers have struggled in front of goal this season.

Their top scorer is veteran forward Kenny Miller with 10 goals across all competitions and they have lacked a ruthlessness in front of goal.
