Kris Commons has revealed that he held talks with Rangers ahead of his move to Celtic and that he had a choice between joining the two Old Firm rivals.

The 33-year-old’s Parkhead contract expires within in a matter of weeks and has already said that he is unsure about what the future will hold for him.

He joined the Bhoys from Derby in 2011 and has since became a real fan favourite after a few seasons of finding the net with ease and helping his side to five Scottish Premiership titles.

Commons has been reminiscing about his time in Scotland and has admitted that Rangers were an option to him, but there was no doubt in his mind on which of the Glasgow giants he would join.

“There were always rumours about that and Rangers certainly made a call. I knew Neil Lennon as we’d both played together at Nottingham Forest. I also knew Kelvin Wilson was coming to Celtic from there after me,” said Commons, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Everything was geared up for me joining Celtic.

“If Man United had phoned me, I’d still have signed for Celtic.

“There was always this ‘It was one or the other between Celtic and Rangers’ but I knew that I was coming to Parkhead.”

Commons made 227 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions and scored an impressive 89 goals from the attacking midfield role.

He has failed to make a single appearance under Brendan Rodgers and was shipped out on loan to Hibernian in winter and proved that he still has what it takes by scoring two goals and supplying two assists in five appearances for the Edinburgh club.
