Rangers have been warned that any deal for midfielder Carlos Pena will be off a work permit is not sorted out by June 20, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that Gers manager Pedro Caixinha is determined to sign the 19-time capped Mexico international on a three year deal, while his father has also admitted his son would be keen on a switch to Glasgow.

It is also detailed that the Ibrox club have agreed a deal in principle for the midfielder, who is currently contracted to Deportivo Guadalajara.

However, the club have now been handed a 23-day deadline to get any deal over the line with it stated that Pena’s club want a decision on the player’s future by June 20, as other clubs are also interested in his signature.

Pena, 27, plays as a central midfielder and featured in 23 matches in all competitions last season, scoring three goals while providing one himself.

Rangers, meanwhile are thought to be on the lookout for a central midfielder with experience after loanees Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman left Ibrox to return to their parent clubs this summer.

The Glasgow giants finished in third place in the Premiership table and they will be sure to look out for further additions to close the gap with fierce rivals Celtic.
