Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal with Montpellier for playmaker Ryad Boudebouz, according to Le Buteur.

The French news outlet claims that Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has sanctioned a move for the 27-year-old, but is unsure of the Ligue 1 side’s £13million valuation.

It is understood that Benitez held talks with Boudebouz’s agent over a possible move to St. James’ Park in the summer.

Montepellier chairman Laurent Nicollin has confirmed that offers have been made for Boudebouz and is looking to make a healthy profit from any potential deal after talks with the player about his departure.

“A good exit for Boudebouz? He has had it for some time. We agreed with him and his agent. If a good offer comes to the club, we will study it together and make a decision that will make everyone happy,” said Nicollin, as quoted by Le Buteur.

“Offers? We have some but nothing very serious for him.”

Boudebouz enjoyed a brilliant campaign for Montpellier this term, scoring 11 goals and suppyling ten assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Le Buteur states that Benitez would look to employ the 24-times Algeria international as a playmaker in his squad as they return to the Premier League following their Championship title win in early May.

Boudebouz can usually play as an attacking midfielder but can also be utilised on the right wing or even as a striker.

He moved to Montpellier in 2015 from Bastia and has a total of 73 appearances for this current employers.

The former France Under-18 international began his career a Sochaux and it is said that he is now looking for a move away from the country of his birth.
