Former defender Kirk Broadfoot has told that he doesn’t believe Rangers fans will take to the signing of forward Kyle Lafferty.

The 29-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a return to Glasgow following his release from Norwich this summer and he has also told that he would love a return to Ibrox.

The powerful frontman was a player for the Gers for four years between 2008 and 2012, scoring 36 times in 134 appearances in total for the club.

However, the way he left Ibrox didn’t go down well with supporters after he lodged an objection against his contract being transferred from Rangers to the new company following their administration five years a go.

Now, Broadfoot has told that he doesn’t believe Rangers supporters will be too keen on Lafferty making his return and has told that he is not sure if the Northern Ireland international is the answer to the club’s current problems.

“It is just a case of getting a club which suits him, he is at the age now where he needs to be playing,” told Broadfoot, as quoted by the Belfast Telegraph.

“But a return to Rangers? Maybe. Maybe not. I am not sure, I don’t know if he would go back to Rangers now.

“I don’t know if the fans would take to him. I know he’s a Rangers guy and all that, and I don’t think he would do any harm there, but whether he’s the player who solves Rangers problems, I am not sure.

“I stayed and jumped down, and then left, so it does depend on how you leave. If he were to go there and score a hat-trick against Celtic I am sure all would be forgotten.”

Current manager Pedro Caixinha is currently looking to overhaul his squad after it’s third place finish in the Premiership last season and he will be looking for players who he feels can help the club push on and improve.

But, a lot of the players Rangers have been reportedly linked to have been players from outside of the United Kingdom given that Caixinha’s knowledge of players is mainly based outside of Scotland.
