Newcastle’s chances of signing Yann Karamoh have received a boost after it emerged that he will not sign a contract extension at Caen, according to SFR Sport.

The French media outlet claims the 18-year-old is expected to leave the club this summer after refusing to sign an extension on his deal, which enters its final year in June.

A talkSPORT report claims the Magpies one of four clubs interested in signing the player, along with Monaco, Fiorentina and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The youngster has enjoyed a breakthrough season with Caen this campaign and he has made 35 appearances in Ligue 1, scoring five goals and supplying four assists.

Despite being employed mainly as a right-winger by Patrice Garande this term, he is also able to play as a striker and on the left.

The 18-year-old has featured for France’s Under-16s, Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-19s, for whom he has made five appearances for, scoring one goal.

He has also been included in Pierre Mankowski’s Under-21s squad, though he is yet to play a game for them.

Karamoh helped Caen avoid relegation from Ligue 1 this term as the side finished 17th, one point ahead of Lorient in 18th.

Rafa Benitez is looking to strengthen his Toon squad ahead of their return to the Premier League next season, after finishing this seasons at the summit of the Championship.
