Ipswich are preparing a move for Rangers forward Joe Garner, according to the Express.

The report details that the Championship club are set to make a £500,000 offer to sign the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window.

It is understood that the striker is in the plans of manager Pedro Caixinha for next season, but Ipswich feel the Gers may be tempted to cash in to help their own business in the summer.

Garner only completed a move to Ibrox last summer in a £1.5million deal from Preston and has endured a mixed first season in Scottish football.

The forward made 37 appearances across all competitions this campaign, scoring 10 goals and chipping in with three assists.

Rangers slumped to a third-placed finish in the league this season and their quality in front of goal was questionable, with unbeaten champions Celtic scoring 50 more times.

Garner looks set to be offered an immediate route back to the Championship and he has played for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Preston, Watford and Scunthorpe in England’s second division.

The most prolific spell during the attacker’s career was with former club Preston and he is yet to really replicate that form in Scotland.

Ipswich are looking to wrap up a cut-price deal for the experienced Garner and Rangers may feel they need additional funds to improve.
